Churchtown GAA / A Proud Record...
Churchtown
GAA is the most dynamic sports organisation in the parish. The club's
decision to purchase an 11 acre field on Kerry Lane in the late
1980s was vital. In 2001 the Club began developing a Sports Stand
with dressing rooms and other facilities underneath the Stand at
a cost of €300,000.

The history of Juvenile affairs in Churchtown centres around the
year 1961. That year Pat O'Brien and Ned Dorney felt that they had
material enough to be a force in under-14 hurling. It was with this
in mind and also their burning ambition for success that promted
them to start a Juvenile Club. Chairman was Ned Dorney and Runai
Pat O'Brien. Little did they think at the time that they were to
be the driving force behind a great under -14 run in the county
that year. Through their guidance and under the watchful eye of
Maurice O'Mahony (trainer) they swept all before then in North Cork
and got through to the County semi-final. Many neutral observers
claimed that they were unlucky to have been beaten by Blackrock,
the eventual champions in a thrilling game. Strangly enough the
club only lasted one more year. In 1962 with the help of some Liscarroll
players the club contested the Divisional final only to be beaten
by a three point margin by Kilworth.
Club colours: Green and White.
